Ways to Remain Curious

  1. Take time to wonder.
  2. Find awe in the world around you.
  3. Keep learning, we all take time to study how to be better teachers, take professional development courses and keep up with the latest educational research. Don't leave out taking time to learn about something that is purely based on your own interest.
  4. Travel to new locations and experience new things.
  5. Subscribe to a magazine that covers topics you enjoy learning about, online or print, then give yourself permission to read some of the articles.
  6. Find a podcast on a topic you enjoy, I love 'things you missed in history class', and use a app to automatically download new episodes, then take the time to listen to them. Again pick a topic you enjoy but is not related to you as a teacher.
  7. Choose one summer reading book that is non-fiction and not about teaching.
  8. Find and Like a facebook page that is interesting. Read their posts regularly.
  9. Download an app like Pocket and save articles you come across to read later. Often we find interesting articles on topics that intrigue us, but don't have time to read them. An app like this is a great way to save it for later.
  10. Always remember that Learning is FUN and give yourself time to enjoy it.

Your a teacher, you have the tools to learn, you just have to remember to keep learning. Even when the topic is simply self enriching you will be surprised at how often that personal enrichment information will find its way into the classroom. Remembering to stimulate your own curious mind will help you to teach your students how to simulate theirs. Most of all keep it fun.
