Brief Description: This reading lesson incorporates social studies concepts. Students read about a young slaves journey along the underground railroad and her hopes of freedom. Told from the point of view of the young girls doll this creative story stimulates the imagination and allows students to build a relationship with the characters of the book. This lesson cultivates creativity by using open ended questions that do not have one right answer. Students are asked to think from their own perspective and to gain an understanding of a fictional character from a real event in history.

Brief Description: This story or Kokopelli used creative language with a catchy rhythm to capture the attention of students. The bright colorful illustrations also engage students and bring them into the story. Curiosity is heightened by the foreign backdrop and surreal paintings of the story.
